Using MOOmail

MOOmail is a system that allows you to send and receive mail from other people on Diversity University.

To mail a message to someone on DU, begin by typing @send <character name>, followed by return. For example, if you are trying to send a message to the wizard Jeanne, you would type

@send Jeanne

The MOO will return:

Subject:

Enter the heading of your message now (again followed by return). Whatever you enter will be the subject of your message. For example, if you are requesting builder status, you could type Request for Builder Status and this would then be saved as the subject of the message.

You can now enter the text of your message. The easiest way to enter text is to use the say (") command followed by your text, and then hit return. For example, you could enter as your first line

"I am interested in becoming a builder on DU.

You will now have a letter addressed to Jeanne, entitled Request for Builder Status, which would read: I am interested in becoming a builder on DU.

When you are finished composing your letter, type send and hit return. Your letter will be sent and you will exit the MOOmail Editor. If you decide not to send the letter, you can type quit and exit the MOOmail Editor without sending the message.

To check for incoming messages, type @mail. If you have a message, you will see the number of the message, the date and time when the message was sent, the name of the sender, and the subject of the letter. For example if Susan sent you a hello letter on 14 June, you would see

1:+June 14 14:05 Susan (#34435) Just a short hello.

To read a message, you just need to type @read <number of message>. To read the above message, you would type @read 1.

If you want to exit the MOOmail editor in the middle of a message (and discard that message), you can type abort and your MOOmail session will be ended.

This page covers only the basics of MOO mail. If you would like to see a complete list of commands that can be used when mailing, type help mail when you are on DU.
