English Tour

The English Tour allows you to explore the different English-related rooms on Diversity University. The tour provides a guide to the resources available, while encouraging you to explore the various exhibits for yourself. These offerings include classroom spaces, a critic's corner, and a virtual trip through Dante's Inferno. This is the perfect way to acquaint yourself with all that the English building has to offer.

To begin your tour, you must go to the Tour Center, which is located in the Student Union building. Begin by typing @go Student Union to move to the Student Union building. Here you will see a number of different locations. Type south or s to go to the Student Union Foyer. Type southwest or sw to go to the Tour Center.

You are now in the proper location to begin your tour. To see your tour choices, type

look Tour Globe Dispenser
To choose the English Tour, type
get English Tour from Globe
You are now equipped to take the tour.

Before beginning, it is important that you familiarize yourself with the list of commands that you will need while you are on the tour. Type help English Tour Globe for this list of instructions. If you become lost or confused at any time during the tour, you can see these commands again by typing help English Tour Globe again.

The directions you will need for the tour are:

begin English Tour
This allows you to start the tour from the beginning.
next on English Tour
This advances you to the next site on the tour route.
prev on English Tour
This takes you back to the previous site.
return to English Tour
If you leave the main tour route, this will return you to your current site on the tour.
speech on English Tour
The tour includes instructional information from a tour guide. This command allows you to "hear" these speeches for each of the sites you visit.
hush English Tour
This will silence the automatic speech delivery.
sites on English Tour
This displays a list of sites on the tour.
end English Tour
Use this command to end the tour.
help on English Tour
This can be used to retrieve this list of instructions at any time.

Now begin your tour by typing begin English Tour. If asked if you want to start your tour from the beginning, answer Yes. If you answer No, your tour will be aborted.

You can program the tour to include speeches for each location as you enter it by answering Yes when asked if you want to hear those speeches. This is helpful for first-time visitors, since the speeches provide informative descriptions of the rooms. The speeches can be eliminated with the hush English Tour command at any point in the tour if you find them unnecessary.

The tour will lead you through different sites. Each site provides you with a number of different objects to look at or rooms to explore. You can leave the main tour route at any time by typing the direction of the location you would like to visit. For example, from the first site you can visit the Shakespeare Hall by typing east. You can then follow the suggested exits to the various adjoining rooms.

Once you have left the main tour route, there are a number of ways to return to the tour site. They are:

return to English Tour
This command will immediately return you to your current site on the tour. The command will place you at your exact location before you began exploring different rooms.

The other commands will return you to the tour route, but at different points.

next on English Tour
This will move you to the next site on the tour.
prev on English Tour
This will return you to your previous site on the tour.

At the end of the tour, there are a few questions to answer. One of these questions refers to the English Tour Globe which you picked up to begin your tour. The program will ask you if you want to return it to where it belongs. If you are done touring, say Yes. Once you send the English Tour Globe back to where it belongs, you will no longer be able to follow the automatic tour. If you decide that you want to resume touring, you must go back to the Tour center and begin with the step look Tour Globe Dispenser.

If you want to continue touring, answer No to keep the globe. Do not try to start over by picking up another globe. Instead, you can resume touring by typing begin English Tour. The globe will remain with you for 30 minutes after you stop exploring the tour route and then automatically return itself to its dispenser when that time period has elapsed.
