The Points of Interest (POI) Board provides a list of the different exhibits and projects that have been created on Diversity University. The list is divided into categories, one of which is for the English Department. If you are unfamiliar with the POI Board, the document Using the Points of Interest Board can help you.
Begin by typing POI-look for a list of the categories on the POI Board. To see the list of the English department offerings, type 14 when you are asked for a category.
The following is a list of your choices with their item number, title, and a brief description.
- 5 Shakespeare
- 7 Grambot
- Grambot is a robot equipped to help you with your grammar. You can type a grammatical term, and he will give you its definition, or he can give you a verbal quiz.
- 68 T.S. Eliot's The Wasteland
- This is an interactive exhibit in which the viewer can explore T.S. Eliot's poem The Wasteland. The exhibit's creator has divided the poem into sections, with each section incorporated into the MOO environment. You can look at the images of T.S. Eliot's famous work, and even have your fortune told in Madame Sosostris' tent.
- 71 Dante's Inferno
- This interpretation of The Inferno presents the various levels of hell in an interactive setting. You are able "talk" to such famous figures as Homer, Virgil, Minos, and the Minotaur. You can travel to the very bottom of hell, where Lucifer himself presides over the damned souls of Judas, Brutus, and Cassius.
- 74 The Serpent's Tongue
- This room is designed so that visitors can post their writing in order to have it read and critiqued by others entering the room. A worn, black notebook, entitled HOURVOICE allows you to post your own works, critique those of others, and even have a piece of writing forwarded to you through email.
- 78 The MOO Poetry Cube
- The Poetry Cube is a three dimensional interactive poem arranged in the shape of a cube of virtual rooms. You are able to construct different versions of the poem as you move through the rooms, adding a line to the poem after each movement.
- 82 Gateway to the Future
- The Gateway allows you to enter a virtual world of utopian communities. This exhibit contains three utopian worlds which you can explore: Ehrjogridia, Utopian Sands, and Ourland.
- 84 one big book
- In this room, you can join a group and share works that you are writing. It is an area for discussion and collaboration on the creation of stories.
- 89 Mu-Bedford (Moby Dick)
- This project allows you to become Ishmael and explore the world of MOO-Bedford. The imagery and characters are taken from Melville's novel Moby Dick. You can visit The Sword-Fish Inn, explore the deserted pier, or travel to the dark end of the street.
- 96 Gateway to the Future II
- Gateway to the Future II contains a second grouping of utopian communities, which is even more extensive than its predecessor. You can take a Forest Path, go to Silicon Valley, or travel to the space ship Intrepid on a shuttle craft, among the various opening rooms present there.
You can look at a short description of a particular project by typing POI-show <item number>. For example, if you wanted see a description of Mu-Bedford, you would type POI-show 89.
If you decide that you want to visit an exhibit, you can either type POI-go <item number> when you are on DU, or click on the links that are provided above.
