Becoming a Builder

Becoming a builder provides you with more extensive privileges on the MOO than those allowed to regular characters. With this status, you are able to perform such tasks as creating a virtual slide projector and digging your own room. You must already be a regular character on DU to become a builder.

In order to apply for Builder status, you must first read a guide to becoming a builder which includes some of the rules and responsibilities of being a builder. To find this guide, go to the DU Policies Library off of Policies Hall. You can get there by typing @go #409. Then type east to enter the DU Policies Library.

Once inside, you must read How to become a Builder. Type read hbb to display the instructional guide discussed below. This guide includes steps to becoming a builder. These steps are:

  1. Set your description and gender.
  2. Fill out @info. You can do this with the command @info me as <text>. You should include your real name, your professional status, fields of interest, email address, and your reason for working in DU.
  3. Type read Richelieu's building guidelines in the Policy Library to receive another much more extensive list of guidelines. Only some of those guidelines will be relevant to you.
  4. Watch the tv tutorial on digging your first room by typing @go #2039. From there type schedule tv, turn on tv, and turn tv to 11. Choose Digging Your First Room by typing play 7 on tv. You can type examine tv for a list of commands on how to use the television.
  5. Subscribe to the "Builders MOOmail list" by typing @subscribe *Builders.
  6. Describe what you want to build and how it relates to the overall theme of DU. This can be sent to the wizards via MOOmail. Addressing your message to *wiz means that all current wizards will receive your request.
  7. Agree that anything built must abide by the guidelines and must be connected and that connection must be approved before you begin building. Send mail to *wiz telling them you have done all of these things. A wizard will then consider your request.

If your request is approved, you will receive notice of your updated status.
