Note: This survey was developed by Leslie Harris (in collaboration with Cynthia Wambeam, Robert Smith, and Terry Craig) as part of on-going research on the effectiveness of Internet-based English Composition teaching as compared to traditional methods of instruction. Students in the experimental classes exchanged e-mail entries with a paired class at another institution. In the control class, students wrote private journal entries in a notebook, which they handed in at midterm and before final exams. At the end of the semester, students in all sections filled out this survey form to indicate how frequently they participated in the journal assignment and what they thought of it. Consistently, students preferred the on-line journal to the traditional private journal, finding it a much more successful and enjoyable assignment. For the e-mail journal assignment, see On-Line Journal Assignment Sheet.
